The Lore Of Obliviac
Known Major Intelligent Races of Obliviac
Symbol: Dal-vachi style drawing of a humanoid
figure
The Humans,
a much younger race that spans a few million years of existence, the most
populated race in existence and still young with developing minds that are (for
the most part) easily seduced by the darker forces that exist in the world and
even more dangerously in their own minds. They are spread far and wide
throughout the world, from the continent of Thou mine to the southern eastern
desert of Tellemystum. Their culture varies considerably in different parts of
the world, the winter pelts of Skelvar with their cozy wooden and stone holds,
to the wealthy center of trade in Failoreon, vibrant in western and eastern Obliviac architectural
colour and structure as well as fashion. Humans are known to be unforgivingly
evil but also amazingly noble and kind, something most forget even about
themselves and like children the human race needs pointers to the correct path
every now and again from either benevolent or terrible events or through good
or evil individuals. Despite their many flaws they relentlessly persist in
living and expanding within the world. If they do not learn and listen to past
events and disasters then they will continue to repeat the same mistakes over
and over like a repeating record on a sorrowful lullaby, ultimately leading to
their downfall. Yet hope remains, there are those who try to see and work
towards a better future refusing to listen to their fears for if they give in
to their fear they will never move forward. There are those who ignore the lust
for power and refuse to give in to arrogance all to build a better world for
everyone.
The Tevlani
race, supposedly an evolutionary mutation of underground elves, they
are large and very strong, like insects they grow with natural Chitin armor and
can see exceedingly well in the dark. Different genders and colonies have
different mutations/ evolutionary adaptions, some have natural glowing
florescent lamps that arch out of their heads, others have more arms and legs
to allow them to shift heavier objects and move faster, some have fungus
mutations allowing them to dissolve the very rocks into food over a long period
of time. The Tevlani also live longer than humans and can live up to two
hundred years old and remain exceedingly strong throughout their years. They
contribute heavily to the mining industry and supply large amounts of stone in
exchange for all kinds of resources; they also have a knack for mining precious
stones but not shaping them into jewelry. Sadly Tevlani are criticized for
being less intelligent than humans due to their smell and the conditions of
which they live in, this is not true just their preferences and culture is very
different. They are also the only known race who have successfully trained
giant insects to do their bidding and even more impressively can cultivate,
grow and shape the Chitin planes to create almost any insect type creature they
desired, some time after the age of order collapsed the Tevlani attempted to
take the world using such techniques but ultimately managed to create the Kurdanesh, a now legendary leviathan that could not be controlled by
the Tevlani’s techniques and ultimately reeked havoc and destruction over both
their armies and the plains before it made it to the ocean, due to that event
which may now be only legend to humans, the Tevlani have never tried to
properly recreate their armies of old and they cant even if they tried as the
damage done by the Kurdanesh was too damaging to repair, it now prowls the
Oceans of the world and is fabled to drag entire floating fortresses to their
watery grave!
The Dwarves,
in this world very few dwarves exist and if one is born to any family,
male or female, there is great cause for celebration. Dwarves (according to
ancient lore) tend to be the result of large influxes of heartfell energy, they
are born with a natural instinct to find and work with either precious stones
and metals, ambitious scientific advancement among explosives and fire control,
or fashion. They are naturally among the best entrepreneurs and find business
comes to them easily thus, so does wealth. Sadly this can lead to jealousy from
other people who are envious of their success, time and again during trying
times dwarves have been murdered due to this envy. Thankfully however not many
of them are all too greedy, they tend to be more interested in their art than
the money behind it.

Semi
Humanoid Intelligent Races:
Sirens,
Mermaids, and Mer-Maidens, are small civilizations of physically
beautiful all female semi-aquatic creatures. The symbol given to these beings is that of a mermaid carrying a
trident.
Sirens stereotypically sing to claim their victims they can both fly and
swim, their skin is often pale white but sometimes differs on various places
across the globe and their hair is that of a white silvery blonde, they have
wings that double as fins underwater and their nails can double as claws.
Despite their delicate figure they are terrifyingly fast and strong so much so
they are faster and stronger than vampires or werewolves. Their hunting grounds
out at sea or on land are normally veiled in a delightful glistening fog that
allows the minds of their victims to have wonderful dreams of numerous blissful
experiences, alleviating troubled minds and tempting them into the fog never to
be seen again. Any who do survive come out finding they can sing
extraordinarily well despite having no memory of anything.
Sirens as a culture will feast on all
manner of creatures including men and women but never children strangely, some
legends claim that lost children have been brought home by a silver haired
maidens, mist slowly flowing from their hair, without a thread on their body
holding the hand of the lost child returning them to their parents and even in
the most bizarre cases they would bring them up as their own, such people are
called Sigh-reens.
Their bodies mutated with long silver hair,
gills on their wrists and legs, webbed hands and feet and their eyes a piercing
pale white also with a gift to sing the most beautiful songs.
Sirens have small settlements found in
underwater chasms, were they horde treasure and grow all manner of peculiar but
beautiful plants, as the mist flows from within them it collects in such chasms
into concentrated orbs bathing the whole place in a blissful white light, they
have also been known to create buildings in such places through song, like the
bards of Vastenheim. Sirens also create the finest musical instruments one
could ever hope to find, just they may get eaten if they attempt to find and
steal such items. As they live in small communities and only take what they
need they are not too much of a threat to society, they also live for about
fifty years and when they die they completely dissolve into the mist that seeps
from their bodies which then crystalizes into a clutch of three eggs, only one
ever tends to hatch.
They can also, on extraordinary occasions
give birth, normally this is where a siren falls in love with a man, draws him
into the mist and rather than killing him she sleeps with him. Children born of
this union can be of either gender and are of unearthly beauty, with long
silver hair and pale silver eyes, they are naturally stronger than ordinary
humans or Tevlani but not as strong as their siren mothers, they can sing and
craft instruments of extraordinary quality, they are also incredible mental
healers as the magical energy that runs through their veins is naturally geared
to tackle the mind. Although such individuals barely exist, perhaps one or two
in a century, such children are called Si-lings.
Mermaids are the most common type of the three,
they live in underwater cities, and they are able to change the color of their
skin, eyes and hair at will. Mermaids have been found in lakes as well as the
ocean and mostly feed on fish and underwater plants. But those in lakes go
through the trouble of taking fruits from trees nearby, as they tend to have
grown a liking towards them. Mermaids are always half fish and half human and
any venture on to land is a great struggle, using Heartfell to temporarily give
themselves legs instead of the lower part of a fish, the problem is the muscles
in their new found legs are very weak and after a short period of time they
always turn back.
Do not go near mermaids if they are in or
near water, like alligators and crocodiles they may seem slow and unassuming
but they can move like lightning. Although it is folklore that mermaids drown
and eat men, but according to the scholar Askon ( A famous marine biologist in
the age of order who spent more time in the water than on land and might as
well have been a fish, he certainly drank like one) this is not true. Mermaids
drag men into the water to their underwater cities/colonies to mate with them,
done out of innocence mostly, men either drown or get crushed by the weight of
the water on the way there. Once in the city the mermaids proceed to mate with
the newcomer as soon as he arrives and catches his breath, most men are said to
die of exhaustion during this period of time.
As far as their culture works mermaids have
a defining hierarchy and from time to time attempt to go to war with other clans,
only ‘war’ in this term means an exceedingly cunning execution of well planned
out affairs with ruthless efficiency and what’s called ‘a cold heart attack’.
Basically humiliating events to squander the leaders of another clan, poisoned
food or a knife in the back. One of the kings of Failorea was said to have
learned his back handed tactics from the mermaids after he was abducted at the
age of thirteen- age doesn’t matter to them! Apart from their cold hearted
treatment of outcasts, drowning men and cutthroat politics they are also
interested in poetry, reading, flowers and other artistic indulgences mind,
body and soul thus making them a colourful and artful race. They live up to
about eighty years old.
Mer-Maidens, The rarest among Mer-creatures Mer-
Maidens are, like the rest of the Mer family, exceedingly beautiful except they
can walk on land like an ordinary human being and swim in the ocean as if they
were a mermaid. Their eyes are purple, with long flowing hair of any color and
the smell of lavender, they are exceedingly intelligent but also wise beings
who possess great knowledge on a whole number of things. They have the ability
to bring healing and happiness to any household or small settlement they come
in contact with, they are deeply in tune with Heartfell energy and at times can
take on other worldly and ghostly forms of themselves, they are more powerful
than the majority of Druids and Druidesses on the Myslium isles. They do not
interact with many of the races often at all and prefer living deep within the
forests or waters of the world, they are so powerful that they can use Devilias
to create their own home in a new dimension a feat not achieved by many other
beings. So as to say they are considered spirits of the tranquil and quiet
parts of the world who are for the most part kind and benevolent beings.
Every now and again they will enter into
the world of humanity to either help or even marry and set up a family, whether
it be to a wealthy noble or a poor farmer it makes little difference to them
they can make a home anywhere and will defend it fiercely.
Angering a Mer Maiden is not easy as they
are kind and patient beings but once angered they have been known to raze
entire armies to the ground, summoning shades and sickened creatures to defend
her, only the next day one would find a young forest growing in place of a
battlefield. Due to the deep connection with Heartfell Mer Maidens can live up
to five hundred years if they choose to, they have control over their energy so
much that they can even choose there and then if they want die or live on, it
is known that those who marry often choose to die alongside their husbands but
those who live alone deep in the ocean, lakes, forests or mountains will live
for a very long time. If you come across such a being don’t anger it and once
she has brushed aside her shyness she may happily discuss philosophy with you,
that and a whole manner of other topics- never take them for fools, they can
read most people like a children’s book.
Giants
The Symbol given to them collectively is a large man carrying a club.
These creatures vary enormously with intellect,
almost all are strong and powerful although rare. They are not known for their
good looks either but one particular colony in the wintered woods to the far
south of Failorea are said to be three times the size of a normal human but
maintain the grace and beauty of kings and queens. Their manners are
impeccable, their speech is eloquent, their looks are flawless and they care
for those around them dearly, so much so people from this region appear to echo
this good behavior through the rest of the world. They eat much the same things
as humans. These are known as the Hearth tribe their symbol is that of a
small burning fire in a hearth.
Unlike their distant cousins in the south,
to the north of Skelvar are giants who have dry grey patchy skin, bloodshot
eyes, stand at about five times the size of a normal human and grow lots of
hair, they are resentful of humans and other humanoid people like them. They
are very strong, but not particularly clever and wear massive wooly garments
made from mammoths, sabertooths and other various animals some only known in
legend. Their main food source is meat, be it of any animal including human or
Tevlani. These are known as the Crackdel tribe their symbol being a
large nailed club smashing a rock in two.
To the west in the plains and the areas
around there are more skinny giants with large teeth, slouched backs and blue
eyes, these tend to be fairly harmless and are more intelligent than the
Crackdel but not as much as the Hearth, they do not wear much due to the hot
climate. The inhabitants of Mashasaketti can actually control them, feed them
and use them in their army as weapons of war, or help them build large and
amazing structures, or help their city recover from natural disasters ect. They
stand about four times the height of a normal human, their main food source
tends to be leaves, grass and vegetation with some amount of meat to help
nourish them. They are known as the Quiet fire tribe and their symbol is that of a small fire with the earth padded around it.
To the North west in the Ashlands and
roving the plains and forests of the Thou Mine continent are the largest giants
in the world, although there are few they stand at around six times the size of
a normal human and are almost as intelligent as the Hearth tribe but are much
much stronger. They are known to have fireproof skin, long hair that flows down
in locks and they wear dragon scale clothing. Their diet is that of the large
dragons that roam the Ashlands. Woe to any who double-crosses or messes with
these giants for there is no where to run or hide from them. Often scavengers
will come to their homes and take their discarded dragon bones and dragon
scales to sell, fortunately these giants do not mind as they act as a self-cleaning
service for free! They are known as the Opis tribe, their symbol is that of a giant standing with folded arms in
front of a volcano.
There are believed to be other species but they
have not been properly documented in High Bridge or Oxfold university in
Augustan. Only traces of information point to the Bards of Vastenheim to have
any further knowledge. However in myth there is said to be giants much higher
who could stand from forty to fifty meters high, they could use Heartfell
extraordinarily well, especially with concerns to ice. It is believed they live
on a continent of their own somewhere out in the world, in plains of ice and
ash but no such place has ever been discovered.
Children of the stars
Their symbol is a pair of eyes in the dark
These are curious and mysterious
creatures, they look like children upon first glance but in fact they are
children of the forest who can live up to hundreds of years old. They typically
have dark brown hair most of the year but during autumn it turns red to blend
in with the falling leaves, also their eyes tend to be a piercing yellow that
reflects light just like wolves.
They tend to only come out at night and
love to sit up on high places to watch the stars or to play with each other. As
they have all the innocence of children yet have amazing knowledge of the
forest they can prove to be dangerous at times (especially to those who have
ill intentions) despite how adorable they may look and by the leaves they wear
for clothes.
They eat the fruits and berries of the
forest and like to look after the animals who live there, in turn they are
guarded by the Ents who watch over them as caring protectors and formidable
guardians.
Travellers first came into contact with
these creatures during long treks in the wilderness, at night time they would
hear giggles and laughter near and around their campsite except when they
looked nobody would be there only the reflection of countless eyes from the
forest around and in the morning certain items would be missing.
